Windsor is a community rich with recreational opportunities. Whether you're new to Windsor or a longtime resident looking to make the most of the season, the warm weather months are packed with events, attractions, and activities the whole family can enjoy. If you’re new to living in Windsor, CO, warm weather comes and goes in the spring, with summer weather arriving in May. This kicks off the town’s summer season, offering you plenty of perfect opportunities to get out and explore your neighborhood and learn more about the area.
Parks and Trails for Staying Active
This community is one of the most park-filled parts of Colorado, giving you plenty of options for finding green space to enjoy near your home. The biggest and most feature-rich spaces include the Boardwalk Community Park, a downtown staple for playgrounds, farmers markets, beaches, and lake access. However, the whole Windsor area is ringed by options for getting outside. There is even a full-scale skate park at Eastman Park and plenty of wildlife viewing opportunities at the River Bluffs Open Space. These spaces are all just a short bike ride or drive from our Greenspire at Windsor Lake community.
There's no need to even leave the Greenspire at Windsor Lake community to get active. The community features a 2.25-mile trail that circles the lake and connects with the regional trail system. Watch pelicans swimming and bald eagles in all of their majesty, thanks to the natural environment that's been preserved with care. The area also has walkable and bikeable restaurant options.
July 4th Celebration and Summer Concert Series
While Windsor’s parks and green spaces are great to explore on your own, they’re also used for hosting many fun events throughout the spring and summer. Pack a picnic dinner and get ready for some family fun under the stars with the city’s Movies in the Park series. Music fans can also get out and enjoy live music, thanks to the Summer Concert Series. Every Thursday night from June through August, you can hear live music from a local band in a different genre. Concert series usually include a variety of genres like rock, dance, country, and tribute bands. There’s even a Yappy Hour event series for dog lovers to mingle. Drop by one of these events to sample adult beverages from the many area distilleries while your canine companions enjoy some off-leash playtime.
Farmers’ Markets, Food Trucks, and More
The Windsor Farmers’ Market opens June 1 and runs every Saturday morning at Boardwalk Park until August 31. Drop by between 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to pick up local produce, freshly baked pastries and bread, cheese and dairy products, eggs, and even local meats. If you’re a foodie but prefer to spend your summer days outside the hot kitchen, head to one of the many food truck events throughout Windsor. Most of the events held at area parks, such as the Summer Concert Series, feature local food trucks that offer you a taste of the area’s local flavor.
Windsor Lake
Get out and enjoy the beauty of Windsor Lake during the warm season as well. Fishing, paddle boating, and canoeing are all great options, but you don’t need to be a skilled outdoors person to make the most of the lake area. There’s a walking trail you can enjoy along with your pets, or visit the swimming beach for a cool way to relax. Take in the sights and sounds of the lake, such as the many beautiful waterfowl species that visit throughout the summer.
Golf Courses
Many people choose Colorado for its world-renowned golf courses, and Windsor has four courses to offer residents. Highland Meadows has plenty of challenges for the skilled golfer looking for bunkers that keep them on their toes. If you’re seeking a relaxed experience, consider Pelican Lakes. Both clubs offer one-day course packages or year-round membership. Pelican Falls, the second course of Pelican Lakes, also provides an exciting golfing experience without leaving the area. And don't forget Raindance National Golf Course, a PGA champion-designed course named one of the Top 10 New Global Courses of 2022 by Kingdom Magazine.
